Question:

Does the name "jan benedikt" sound like a full german name?

I cant find out where one of my ancestors came from, ive been told he immigrated to russia through a baltic country but they did not specify where, He lived near a german community and his family was exhiled to siberia like other germans as well, but benedict is a catholic name so could he be polish?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Jan is Polish name for John, his family was exiled to Siberia like many Polish through ages, so he could be Polish or germanized Polish. He could live in north eastern Poland or in Lithuania.
