Can anyone tell me about a church in Scotland wit two ropes on either side of door?

I have an old photo of the first world war soldiers taken at the church and outside the door there are rope knots on either side of the door,,there are stairs as well.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: That sounds like the bell ropes. Few Scottish churches have more than a single bell which might help narrow your choice. It would probably be further narrowed if you could find out the uniform the boys were wearing. Most solders in WWI joined their local/regional regiments.
