As one who traces genealogy I can tell you that I've traced several thousand people without their knowledge through public records, obituaries and the scores of other records out there that are readily available. Its not a crime to trace people without their knowledge, its what you do with the information that can get a person in trouble. A responsible genealogist NEVER posts information on LIVING people on the internet or anywhere else for that matter.
