Position:Home>Genealogy> Sarah Ruth Blocker?

Question:

Sarah Ruth Blocker?

A cousin of mine and I have searched and I am taking a long shot that someone here knows something. Sarah's mother's first name was Elizabeth and I believe she was American Indian. We are still tryiing to find who were Sarah's parents.Census records show Sarah born in Louisiana and her parents born in Mississippi. However, someone said her father was actually born in South Carolina.
Sarah was married to Henry Ault (understand name was originally Altman) and had 4 children and after he died married Preston Williams. She was on the 1880 census of Travis County, Texas
My grandfather, Peter Ault, rode the trails with John R. and Ab Blocker. I understand he lived with them for awhile. He said his Uncle Ab taught him how to ride a horse. Someone said everybody called Ab Uncle Ab.
My grandfather was a Jew. He always set a place for Elijah at the table but since he was a playful man his children didn't realize it was because he was Jewish.

My older sister said that when Grandpa Ault told the story of Elijah returning it sounded like a ghost story.
I have heard he could scare Ab Blocker to death telling about Elijah returning.

There was a hour long weekly television series back in the 50s to early 60s about cattlemen and I understand it was about John R. and Ab Blocker. I understand John R was the biggest cattle baron the world has ever known.
One of the shows portrayed my grandfather. They were sitting around the fire eating chow and my grandfather asked if he could set a place for Elijah. Then he said he wanted to tell the story of Elijah and the person portraying Ab told him not to be teling any ghost stories. However, I cannot rememer the name of the series. Not Bonanza. Now, Dan Blocker was in the same family but a different line.

My cousin has the Blockers in America book but we still can't tie our Sarah to the right family. At the back of my mind I think I remember hearing my aunts said Sarah was a result of a polygamous marriage. That her mother did not know her father already had a wife.
This was back when my mother was very ill and I really didn't make much note of anything.

Sarah was born March 12, 1854
and died May 14, 1916 in Texas and is buried at Pettytown Cemetery in Caldwell County, Texas. At one time per oral famiy history she had a small newspaper. A roof caved in and hit her in the head and she went blind and her mind was effected. She is censused as Sarah Ault living in Travis County, Texas in 1880 next to her brother-in-law, Peter Ault.
Her son, my grandfather, Peter Ault, was only 3 at the time.
Her mother, Elizabeth, was living with the Peter Ault family in the next dwelling.
My grandfather, Peter Ault was born April 22, 1877 in Texas and died March 26, 1937 in Beaumont, Jefferson County,Texas and is buried at Liveoak Cemetery in Travis County.

1880 census shows Sarah as being born in Louisiana but a census of my grandfather showed his mother as being born in Alabama. Saw an earlier census in Alabama with a Sarah Blocker and her father was AB
Blocker. John R. and Ab's father was Abner Pickens Blocker.

Ab Blocker was known to use "language." One of my aunts said my grandmother looked out the window and said, "Oh, Papa, here comes Ab. Go meet him and tell him to be careful what he says around the children." Apparently my uncle, the youngest of 9 children, came out with an expression and she was whipping him good when my grandfather intervened and told her he was just repeating something Ab said.
A lot of people thought he was very funny.
