how can I figure out what heritage I have? Like,how do I know if Im part Irish or German and so on?Websites?I want to know where my family came from and the ethnicy or whatever its called that I'm from....my parents dont know...and I want to find out...whats a way of doing so?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You didn't say where you live, nationality, but the basics are the same. Learn from your parents and grandparents all that you can of who their parents and grandparents were, as far back as anyone recalls. Get full names, dates and places of births, deaths and marriages, and begin getting copies of documents for all of those as well as military service &c.

Enter all you can onto genealogy software for organization, so you can see what you know and what you don't. By this point if US you can begin searching out your ancestors on census images to learn more about who the parents and family of each were, and keep working back. Eventually you will be weaving immigrants into your family history. You'll be your family's own historian!
