Question:

Can't find family history...?

So I've looked on all the websites out there to try to find my family history, and maybe one or two people from the past pop up with my family name. All I know is that the name originates from Lithuania. I don't want to put my last name on here for everyone to see... I was just wondering if anyone knows of a better way to find my entire family history. Thanks!

Stop trying to find an "entire" family history. Find persons. Individuals who you know to be YOUR ancestors. Imagine that instead of walking into a library and picking a "family" book off the shelf... you are the author.
Start by documenting YOU. Yes, you know all the details like you were born in a certain city on a particular date. What record do YOU have that confims this (as if you are not there, and needed to verify to someone else). Your birth certificate links you to your parents whose names are on there. Document them. The idea in using documentation to "prove" what you already know, is an absolute basic key to genealogy. It is to get you in the habit and mindset of using reocords, instead of memories or personal knowledge (both of which are human, and thus fallible). There will come a point where you won't use certificates, as we know them, but other items like baptisms, tombstones, census, etc.
Your NAME originates from Lithuania. Meaning, your father's name. Your mother is another name and background. Your grandparents represent 4 names and backgrounds. You will keep branching, and you are an equal part of all of these. DON'T attempt working the name in Lithuania, until you reach the grandfather OF THAT NAME who immigrated. As you document HIM, you should run into the name of the area there that he was born, hopefully in American records.
Many people (after some work) chose to take that grandfather, his wife, and collect his descendents. That's ok, but since people keep having babies, getting married or divorced, etc.. that can be a never ending thing. Going backwards, they tend to be dead and stay put. Much easier.
All of a sudden, you will wake up one day and realize that the combination of your facts snuck up on you, and became a history. And you had a heck of a good time along the way.
