Question:

More about 1st and 2nd generation?

If one parent is 1st generation and the other parent is 2nd, then is the child 2nd or 3rd generation?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Your mother is one generation removed from you just as your father is one generation removed from you, even though your dad may be 20 or 30 years older than your mom. Up until quite recently, in many cultures, including the American frontier, it was relatively common for an older man to marry a woman much younger than he was.

On a pedigree chart, the individual whose ancestor is being traced would make up the first generation, his or her parents (no matter what their ages) the second generation, and their grandparents the third generation.
