Question:

Where can I find background info on somebody using only a name and location?

I've never met nor plan to meet my biological father but I'd like to get some health information on him to figure out what diseases might run in his family... i.e. cancer, blood pressure, heart issues... All the info that I have on him is his name and the state that he lives in. Please give me ANY information you might know on how to obtain the info I'm looking for. I'll greatly appreciate it - Thanks in advance!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You have a valid reason for wanting the info, but it also bumps into privacy issues that genealogists normally don't face, since we are tracing ancestry. (of course, it IS your ancestry).
You have to consider how you would feel if the same type of info were out there, about you. When it comes to medical information, not even wives or parents of adults can get that, without the permission of the person.
Peoplefinder.com and zabasearch are two "living" person directories. I was working it last night to find some lost friends, and I know there are some errors.
I won't advise you on if you should/should not meet him. That isn't my call to make. But you won't find what you are asking, unless you do. The other way to look at this, is as if you never KNEW who he is (many kids out there today face that issue). You stay healthy and make sure that you have regular tests for any of these things. Having a "history" of them does not mean you will get them.
Good luck. If you do decide to make the effort to find him, I suggest stopping at www.cyndislist.com to see some of the adoption resources. These are persons who have worked through the emotional angles of contacting unknown relatives, and doing so in a tactful way.
