How do I find how who is in this old photo?

We have been given an old photo of our house and there is an old woman and a small child stood in the doorway.
We guess it was taken over 100 years ago, due to the clothes they are wearing but we would like to know who they are!
We are in a small village location so don't know how good records would of been compared to cities.
Any advice greatfully received

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I would research old city directories of your town and build a timeline with the entries of the people who resided there. Many libraries have old direcories of their town in the reference section. Also, many old city directories have a reverse look up feature so that you can see who lived where on any given street. That will probably narrow it down considerably. Houses 100 years ago didn't usually have a rapid rate of turnover like they do today, so you probably are only looking at a couple of possibilities.
