Question:

I'm looking for origin of the name Icle (my Mother's given name).Does anyone know this name's origin?

My Mom has no idea why she is named Icle, her twin sister is Icie. Research shows Burle Ives was originally Icle Ives, but can't find anything about the name.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I decided to just do a search w/ the given name "Icle" in the ancestry.com database area and found 20 who arrived in NY.

BTW, one of them was Burle Icle IVES, so, I guess Icle was his middle name.

The places of origin for the majority of them is Italy - the rest are just one person each from Croatia, Ireland, Germany, Finland, England, Holland, and one that came from Russia(Hebrew).

So, if this is any type of Biblical reference, I thought I would go to the Given Names Database at: http://www.jewishgen.org/galicia/gndb/sr...
I did find that there was a Yiddish name "Ikl" with a Biblical reference of Kings II 15:14 . Perhaps that would be a start???

Oh, and when I search Icie, it looks like there is a male name of "Iciek" which is a form of the name Isaac.

Totally off the subject or maybe Shel Silverstein had an Icle in his life...have you heard "Icle Me, Pickle me, Tickle Me Too."?
