Question:

Is it possible for a Lebanese to have a French Surname?

I am doing a research paper for a class, I am taking for the summer, and the topic is finding out your family background. I just find out while doing this research, that my grandmothers mother is from Lebanon. She is a Christian Lebanese. Her last name before she married my great-grandfather is a French surname. Is it possible for some people in Lebanon to have a French surname?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's extremely common. The French colonized in the region. Not only did they leave many children behind, but some actually enjoyed the area and built families there. Check out both Latin rite and Maronite Catholic churches in the area of Lebanon where the family lived and you should have no trouble tracing the family.
