Question:

Why do some Mexicans have light skin and colored eyes?

Most of my family members have light skin/hair, and colored eyes, i Know the whole Spanish invasion story, but my family doesn't come from any of the major Mexican cities and my grandparents say they've lived where they do since forever(?), and were not close to where the indians lived. They're from like the mountain ranges you'd find here in the U.S. not the tropical ones that Mexico sometimes has. just wondering...

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Mexican is a nationality, rather than ethnicity although in a greater sense through the 19th-20th centuries the culture is what we recognize as mexican. Spanish and German/Austrians instead of natives I suppose. Do you or they live in the colonial highlands down around San Miguel de Allende? Mennonites and mormons down in Chihuahua?

I'm amazed that so many seem unaware of Mexico's Hapsburg Austrian Emperor Maximilian. It's not that long ago!

Really the only way to know is genealogy research.
