Question:

How do you find someone in Germany on-line?

I need to find my boyfriend's uncle who was living in Germany the last anyone knew of. My boyfriend's grandfather is really sick. We have contacted the Red Cross and they said they can only help if we have his social security number but, we don't have it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do now?
Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The best resource for the English-speaking searcher is http://www.infobel.be

This site has all of the available phone information for the world, and has multiple language interfaces so that you don't have to go to many contortions to use it.

The other option is to contact your country's embassy in Germany and ask for their assistance in locating this man with the available information. They have the ability to contact the authorities for a humanitarian reason such as this. They are very approachable and usually go out of their way to help. Conversely, you could also call the German embassy or consulate nearest you to find him. They can contact the police in whatever town he lives in to notify him of his brother's serious illness and relay contact information. I've done this a few times with the Canadian Consul in Chicago and they were wonderful about getting the information delivered very quickly. They can access far more than we can, and they're very effective at getting things done.
