JB Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Is this the right Homer? Name: Homer T. Thomas Death Date: Dec 1924 Death County: Walker Volume: 57 Roll: 2 Page #: 28019 Or maybe this one? Homer T. Thomas DOB: 18 May 1885 DOD:15 Dec 1972 Last Res: Geneva, Geneva, Alabama Name: Homer S Thomas [Homer T Thomas] Home in 1920: Ponce De Leon, Holmes, Florida Age: 34 years Estimated birth year: abt 1886 Birthplace: Alabama Relation to Head of House: Head Spouse's name: Abbie Father's Birth Place: Alabama Mother's Birth Place: Alabama Marital Status: Married Race: White Sex: Male Home owned: Rent Able to read: No Able to Write: No Image: 1020 Household Members: Name Age Homer S Thomas 34 Abbie Thomas 34 Pearlie Thomas 12 Lena Mae Thomas 11 Willie Agnes Thomas 8 Charlie Thomas 6 Johnie Thomas 5 Wesley Thomas 1 8/12 I pulled the census of 1920 that we know is your family so that we all have the same info to work from...but KatesMate is goofball so it doesn't really matter. Here's what I found on the family. There is no standard spelling for LeGere or LaGear. But there is someone we can track who may be a sibling...right age and right location. He was a police officer from Mobile named Willie Legear. Interesting on its face because one of the children (a daughter) is named Willie. Willie Norton Legear 2 Jun 1886 White Mobile, Mobile, AL Contact the city of Mobile and find out where their old personnel records are archived. That gives you something concrete to research independently of the internet. Then we can figure out where he was born and who he was listing as NOK throughout the years. I also found a William Legear living in Georgia, which is where Abby's parents were supposedly born. He was a widower in 1910 and would be worth investigating further: Name: William H Legear Age in 1910: 41 Estimated birth year: abt 1869 Birthplace: Georgia Relation to Head of House: Head Father's Birth Place: Georgia Mother's Birth Place: Georgia Home in 1910: Colomokee, Early, Georgia Marital Status: Widowed Race: White Gender: Male In 1880 he used the spelling Leger: Name: William H. Leger Home in 1880: Wrights, Henry, Alabama Age: 17 Estimated birth year: abt 1863 Birthplace: Alabama Relation to head-of-household: Son Father's name: J. James Father's birthplace: South Carolina Mother's name: Mary A. Mother's birthplace: South Carolina Neighbors: View others on page Occupation: Farm Laborer Marital Status: Single Race: White Gender: Male The real problem we face in trying to track this couple is that Alabama didn't file marriage records til the 1930s. You might do better to pull Abby's death record and obituary to see what information they offer. There are only a couple of possibilities on who the parents might be, so you could also track down their obits. But there's nothing resembling birth records, marriage licenses or competent death records in this state early enough. They're not showing up on the earlier censuses as someone's children. I'd work with the names of the kids to see who they were named after...it's probably the most competent clue to work from in this family. |
