I am trying to find my family's lineage...what is the best way to go about this?

I found out from my father that my family came from Wales (Great-Great Grandfather possibly) and my Great Grandfather changed our last name. I would just like to know how to check my family's lineage to see exactly what part of Wales we came from. Thank you for your time!
