Any info. can help.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Just guessing, but French names and Black suggests Louisiana to me. There are tons of Robicheaux families in rootweb.com files.. but up front, does not indicate ethnic either way.
For beginning research, your basics would be the same as anyone. Start with yourself.. collect what you can about immediate ancestors from home sources, find valid records to support the names/dates/places (you normally won't get those records online). When you start seeing gaps in the info, you zoom in on how to verify that specific... which will DEPEND on locality and time frame.
Your family should show up prior to 1930 in census records. The primary online source for those is ancestry.com (for a fee, but you can do a trial subscription)... or many libraries subscribe to the same for the patrons, and you can thus do it free.
IF you are referring to Black families that were originally slaves, your work should go back to at least the 1870 census.
No denying that records prior to that will be difficult.. but others have done it.. you won't know unless you try.
If you can start with a tentative outline of individual names and places (some idea of dates), come back and post that. With something solid, there are many persons here who can help.
