My grandmother disapeared in 1944 4 years after my father was born?

dad was the last of 7 children. no one has ever heard of her again? i've checked all graveyard records, all the national census records, all newspapers archives i'm stumped.....How would one get a social security number of a missing loved one from that long ago.... her name was

born in indpls. in. 1904

my grand father was in california evelyn was married and in pa. edward jr was in the navy. she(lavonne) put my father and my aunt alice on a bus to cal. to be with grandpa she was never seen again...she had taken off to chicago once befor he (grandpa) went up there and brought her back all her children echo the same story (f-her) they are all very angry bitter and all are very unemotional people i know all her children my aunts n uncles some are dead now. My father spent lots of time at her sisters house ella and at wilberts..but remember he was only 4 years old and dont remember his mom. i have found all the things in the cencus i was looking for the ssi # incase she may of changed her name...i'm specificly looking for her death local, and the story of the rest of her life...maybe someone alive who remembers her???
