Question:

Anyone from Amstein (Vorarlberg) Austria?

I recently began tracing my ancestry and found that my grandfather (we think) was from Amstein (Vorarlberg), Austria. They gave him the surname Stein at Ellis Island in 1895. Is anyone from the area and if so, how can I get information on this area and photographs? Google and Yahoo have very vague information. Thank you in advance...

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I'm not sure how the results you got were "vague" when you searched for Vorarlberg. It's a beautiful Alpine village and I got significant results. If you're researching genealogy in the area, it won't be difficult. The Austrians weren't devastated by the wars...and especially not in the Alps. You really just need to familiarize yourself with the region and start tapping into the regional archives to find birth, marriage and death records, passport/visa records, and military records.
