Question:

How can I find out if a deceased aunt left a will, without a fee?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: All you do is contact the Clerk of the Probate Court in the county where she lived and ask if a Probate was opened and a will filed. If it was, then you send them the fee for a copy of the will. If it wasn't, then you're out no money and have your answer.

If your aunt died without a will, a Probate case may still have been opened. This is called dying "intestate" and the Court will settle her debts and divide her assets between her heirs.

If your aunt had a living trust, then there's no Probate at all because the trust doesn't need to be run through the Court to be enforced. The Trustee does everything and the Court is out of the picture.
