Position:Home>Genealogy> Tax records/ court rolls?

Question:

Tax records/ court rolls?

I'm trying to find more information on ancestors I already know some thigns about. I am hoping to find tax records and anything similar which may help give a more detailed look at my ancestors lives; occupation, property, etc.

The areas in question were part of the Trier diocese and the other was part of Aremberg rulers holdings. Who should I contact to see if anything has survived? I'm at a loss right now.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: They do exist, but accessing them is going to be the difficulty...unless you take the trip to Germany and pull them from the archives yourself or hire someone to search for you...and you're looking at probably a $1500 minimum for someone to do that search for you.

The civil registry is held in the Standesamt. That's not the hardest to access and, in fact, the LDS should have the records filmed already. The rest of the records will be held in the Archives of Rhineland-Palatinate (in German it's called Rheinhessen-Pfalz). Here's their website (in German) http://home.bawue.de/~hanacek/info/darch...
