Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: there is always a kind of "yes, but..." thing to names and nationality. A name may have originated (hundreds of years ago) in MAYBE Spain.. but since then, decendents seem to have migrated all over the world. I ran some quick checks in google.. and see it in the Phillipines, as well as in Mexico.
Since nationality tends to be a political thing, it really won't apply to a name in general. It won't tell you that you (or friend) have Spanish ancestors, etc.
To really be reliable... takes tracing the ancestry of the person whose name it is, and learning where they came from.
