Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: the best way to look up family history is through your local library. I currently work at one and many libraries have public databases in which you can sort through all the reference files etc. In fact you can use our database...BUT you have to go through our website:

www.mcpl.lib.mo.us

then click on "databases" under the "Online Resources"

then go "Geneology" on the left hand side...

then go to "Ancestry Library Edition"

and that should give you a really good start. Here's the catch though...You HAVE to go through all the steps in order to use that Ancestry Database for free. In fact most of the geneology databases THROUGH our website are free! I really hope this helps you out!
