Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Depends on what you want to know about him. If you're interested in his lineage, you have his date of birth, so you could obtain his Birth Certificate. That should tell you his parents names, and then you work back from there with his parents marriage certificate. Pick up a bit of information from each certificate and it's amazing how far back it'll take you.
If you're looking for information about his life and times, you can probably get more from the Armed Services Records. I'm in Australia, but I have records of service of both my Grandfathers - that is, their movements during the First World War, any illnesses during their time in the services, etc. You'd need to log in to:-
