Position:Home>Genealogy> What kind of last names are Kenerson and Vertner?

Question:

What kind of last names are Kenerson and Vertner?

Just how common are these last names? I don't think they are because I've never heard of them outside of my family.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Two people named Kenerson camed from Ireland and 1 from Sweden per Ancestry.Com. It shows the meaning as probably a version of the English Kenison.

Vertner they show 3 came from Germany, 2 from France, 2 from Italy, 1 from Russia and 1 from Austria. no meaning was given.

Now you should see that the origin of a name doesn't tell you much about the origins of your family. The same names come from many different place.

The best thing is to search your family tree starting with your parents and work back. Work on one family line and if you come to a brickwall, set it aside for awhile and work on another.

There are people on this board that can give you hints if you decide to do this.

You can check a free site Rootsweb. Now information in family trees on any website must be taken as clues not as fact as most is not documented. Even if you see the same information over and over by different submitters a lot of copying is being done. But if you find the names in family trees, probe the name and you will see the email address of the submitters.

Now some submitters might not know too much as a person with one of the surnames might just have married into the submitters family. But you can try more than one and might come up with some information.

FamilySearch.org is also a free site and has family information.
