Question:

To laminate or not to laminate...?

I've heard it mentioned before that you should never laminate birth, marriage or death certficates, but no-one has ever been able to explain why. I've done many documents over the years and have not had any problems. So, why not laminate?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Many times the glue in the laminate can damage the document or picture after time. It's important to use plastics that are classified PVC (I think it is) so they don't damage pictures or documents because many times they can discolor things, especially pictures.

I buy the plastic sleeves to put in the notebook where I can slip my certificates and other papers in the sleeve so they are safe from folds and fingerprints and can be viewed easily. They have special sleeves for pictures so I try to buy those in various sizes for those.

I also avoid using tape on things like my grandmother used to do and try to use only fine point black ink when writing on things because sometimes they have a tendency to bleed after a while, especially if any dampness gets to them.
