Question:

I have a German ancestor whose first name is Berry. This name is probably Anglicized. What could it stand for?

He arrived from Germany around 1879. I don't find any immigration information about him, so I wondered if his name was not really Berry but a name he might have chosen to sound more American. Any thoughts about what it could be?
