Question:

How do I get a corrected birth certificate?

I was raised from birth by my aunt and uncle in Prentiss, Mississippi and all of my records have their surname listed as my last name. I am having some difficulties now and need a corrected birth certificate with their names on it. Someone please help me with the information so that I may become legal?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Call the Vital Statistics Office for the State you were born in to find out what you need to do to have this birth certificate corrected. If your aunt and uncle adopted you when you were younger then they have to issue you a new birth certificate that shows the corrected name.

My mom had to do this with her home country of Panama when it was discovered that her mother's name was spelled wrong on her birth certificate. She got help from a lawyer to do that because of some business she has going on.

Please check with the State's Vital Statistics office (they will be listed under Dept of Health and Human Services in the State section of the Blue pages of your phone book) for further information.
