Why are people so disappointed to find they are descendants of Gypsies?

Question:

Why are people so disappointed to find they are descendants of Gypsies?

After several years researching my family history, i discovered that both my paternal grandparents were Gypsies.
My Dad never told anyone, not even my Mother.
Having made contact with other family members using the net, virtually all of them loose interest when they find they have Gypsies origins. Why?
