Question:

Wanting to get my grandfathers military records?

My grandfather served in Korea. My grandparents divorced so my grandmother cannot ask for them. He remarried. Except he passed away in 1995. His wife's health took a turn for the worse and she passed away. Her family came in and threw everything out claiming that we as his family had no claim to any of it (he did not have a will). Since his records are gone is there any way that I can get a copy or something? I dont know his ss# or military id#, but there has to be some other way right?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You could start by looking up his Social Security number here:
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/

Then, go to the National Archives and fill out a form requesting the records:
http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrec...

Read this too:
http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/militar...

You CAN get the records. They are public records.

Good Luck!
