Question:

In 1916 when registering a birth would the father have needed to be present to be named on the cert?

I have a grandfather who supposedly died 5 years before he is named on a birth certificate as the father? How tough were the rules then-could he have just been named in his absence?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: course he could. There was a war on not all fathers could be present
