Question:

How have you learned about your ancestry?

I have heard mine through parents and grandparents. Because of this I know my great great great granparents on the paternal side came here from England in the late 1700's. And I have found their graves in an old abandoned cemetary not far from where they settled. They were given free land when they agreed to clear it. My grandmother on my fathers side came here from Germany but I don't know anything more than that. On my grandmothers side (paternal) they came here from Scotland and my grandmother used to have a kilt and bagpipes in her attic that she said belonged to her Great grandfather. (no one knows what happened to them )On my grandmothers maternal side they came here from ( Assaille?) Lorrain area of France and helped drain the black swamp here in Ohio for the promise of free farmland. Actually traced the French part back to The 1740's when they came here to Ellis island. One of them died on the trip over. I wish I knew more. If you know your history I would love to hear it.
