Question:

Is anyone familiar with the early Watertown Mass. settler Richard Waite?

I know i'm a direct ancester of him but I can't prove it yet. Its been passed down for generations. Through historical websites I have got back as far as 1824 with a guy named Charles Waite who was born that year and also served with the union in the civil war. I also know he was born in Mass. and Died in Mass. Can anyone help me link him to Richard Waite? Thank you so much

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You don't know you're descended until you've proved it.

You didn't give much information for your Charles, but Massachusetts research is one of the easiest. Virtually all Mass. Vital records (going back to the 1630s) have been published (available through most major libraries). Mass Civil registrations start in 1841 and are available on-line through the NEHGR through 1910. The $75 annual membership fee is well worth it if you have numerous Mass. lines.

If he was indeed born in Mass. ca. 1824 or so, your Charles could be the Charles Foster WAIT, s. Peter and Pamelia (Wheeler), born Feb. 4, 1825 in Danvers (Danvers VR) or the Charles WAYTE, son of William and Elizabeth born Nov. 3 1824 in Malden (Malden VR).

There are also 24 records for the death of a Charles Waite between 1841 and 1910.

If you edit your post to include locations and any other personal information you know about Charles, I may be able to help you further.
