It wasn't do you like my poem. It wasn't is this poem good. It was a much better question, and I'd like to take a shot at answering it. I don't know how long you've written, but this reminds me of some of my earlier work. Betrayal, isolation, pain...it hurts, but it is a good place to start. To your question, poetry is it in you. It's potentially in everyone, they just need to care enough, and write enough to find their own specific voice. Once you find that voice your work starts to be more and more about how you see the world, the pain, the grief, the hope, the love, the joy--all of it. So, yes poetry's in you. I hope you keep writing so, that your voice can come out clearer and clearer, because that's when the fun starts (for me it was about 100-150 poems in, all the old ones weren't wasted, I was able to go back and take seed thoughts from many and make updated poems that were more truly mine). So, don't doubt yourself. Be encouraged, it's a fun journey. |
